Before joining Keller Postman, Mike represented the federal government in litigation. Most recently, he served in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of General Counsel, Appellate Division, where he defended the Commission’s trial court results and final agency orders before federal appellate courts throughout the country. He also advised trial teams on bankruptcy and receivership matters. Mike received the Commission’s Paul. R. Carey award for his work on a team that obtained over $4 billion in remedies in a crypto securities fraud matter.
Before that, Mike served as a federal prosecutor and civil trial attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office in Chicago. While a prosecutor, he investigated and tried violent crimes. As a civil trial attorney, he had primary responsibility for all bankruptcy matters and defended the United States in civil actions. He also investigated and prosecuted civil rights matters, for which he received multiple commendations including for his work on the Civil Rights Division’s investigation of the Chicago Police Department.
Earlier in his career, Mike represented trustees and committees in bankruptcy litigation while at Jenner & Block LLP. He also maintained an active pro bono practice, defending individuals in bankruptcy litigation and representing incarcerated persons in civil and criminal appeals.
Mike received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School, where he worked in a clinic focused on redressing police brutality. He received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
